Hard-Luck Presidential Candidate and New York Governor, Tom Dewey signed letter to an "Italian fan" on her complimenting him on his Colubus Day Speech. Dewey was best known in New York for having sent Lucky Luciano to prison and for having survived an assasination plot by Gangster Dutch Schultz. But the rest of us know him as the man who lost to Harry Truman in the biggest upset in Presidential history.

Dwight Eisenhower's "Worst Mistake", Chief Justice Earl Warren responds to a friend's letter after being re-elected for a third term as Governor of California. The letter is signed and dated December 22, 1950. Several years later, President Eisenhower would nominate Warren to the Supreme Court, thus setting off a firestorm of rulings and recriminations that are still felt to this day.
